17th August 2017
Windsurfing: Felixstowe Fludyers
Wind Direction: W
Wind Stength: 10-20kts
Surf / Sea State: lumpy chop
Air Temperature: warm
Sea Temperature: warm
Weather: nice cloudy
Max Speed: 23.11 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 11.3 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

Arrived 1 ish. Chris and Andrew chatting C on 7.5 and A on 5.8! Going to be one of those days. Sea looked lumpy wind cross off measure 10-15, not much wind inshore, most out. Chris was planning on 7.5, so rigged 8.5. Colsey / Andy rigged 7.0 as the wind freshened (bugger 8.5 was too big). Pete was at his limit on 7.8 so started to pull out 7.0 when the wind dropped..great! They were under and I would be OK for a change. Shot off beach, didn't bear away as too windy and lumpy. Had a couple of runs, then flattened the sail instead of changing. Had a few more nice runs and the wind dropped again. Windsurfing was becoming a pain literally as my back was starting to ache out of the harness a mile out and trying to get back on the lumpy sea. Wind dropped totally so crawled in. Colsey rigged 8.5 on 85cm Manta and planed nearly all the time, whilst most of us was launching just on gusts. When it was up it was good on the Patrik 145L rigged to my 8.5 Phantom. Didn't like the board much at first but getting used to it. Its a 100% more comfortable than my old JP 146 flying machine in chop. The lesser speed and scattiness in chop is a big plus. Carves better in chop also, so have to take back all the Patrik being a dog board. It just accelerates a little slower than slalom shapes am use to. Ian was under with his 6.5 but had a decent sail. Only done 11.3nm with one terrible run in about the speed of the tide! Max speed gained on a small flat section going out on a gust was 23.11kts measured on the GT31. I now also use a TomTom watch and have been comparing accuracy. The GT31 showed 2 sec max = 23.11kts the watch = 22.92kts, so the accuracy was within 1% reasonable tolerance to be honest. It matched the GT-31, 10 sec max. Can conclude that the watch software is accurate but is set to record in 10 sec max. The major flaw with the watch is you cant see the max speed on the watch!! you have to BT to phone to read it. It has "live" speed. but who the heck can read a watch att full pelt in any speed sport? TomTom wakey wakey! Update the software please. The days sailing was better than sitting at home (just!)
